Weather Miri
Miri, a city on the island of Borneo, was where Shell built their first ever oil well, in 1910 - and oil and petroleum have continued to be the city's dominant industries ever since. That first oil well - the Grand Old Lady - is now a tourist attraction and museum.

Miri's Climate
Miri has a tropical rainforest climate. It is wet, hot and humid all year round, with little temperature variation across the year. However, there is a distinct dry season - although perhaps "drier" would be a better name, since Miri is never really dry. This is rainforest territory, after all.
Miri in the Dry Season
Miri's dry season is brought by the southwest monsoon winds, and occurs between February and August. At this time, you can expect to see rain on between 10-12 days each month, and each month receives between 6 and 8 inches of rain.
Average daily highs reach 30-31°C, with overnight lows of 23°C. The decrease in humidity is welcome, and it's easier to sleep during the dry season than during the higher humidity of the wet season.
The dry season is the peak tourist time in Miri, for obvious reasons. Although it still rains quite a lot, most of the rain comes in the late afternoon or early evening, allowing tourists to still enjoy time on the beach or exploring the nearby countryside.
If you're visiting Miri in the dry season, take sunscreen, sunglasses and lots of lightweight clothing.
Miri in the Wet Season
During the wet season in Miri, between September and January, you are going to get wet. At this time, you can expect to see rain on between 14 and 20 days each month, and each month will receive up to 14 inches of rain.
However, it doesn't rain all day, every day. Torrential downpours and spectacular thunderstorms quickly give way to muggy but dry sunshine. Miri's infrastructure copes well with the rains and they should not impact on your holiday overly much.
High winds can stir up the oceans, however, so this is not the ideal season for scuba diving - if it's Miri's coral reefs which interest you, they dry season is a better bet.
If you're visiting Miri in the wet season, take waterproof shoes and a waterproof poncho - don't bother with any heavier waterproof clothing, as it will be far too hot - average temperatures are still 30°C during the day and 23°C overnight.
