Navan’s Climate
Navan has a temperate climate, with no extremes of temperature or of weather. Like most of the rest of Ireland, Navan receives plenty of rain all year round - in no month is it likely to rain on fewer than 10 days. Summers are warm but not hot, winters are cool but not cold.
Navan in Spring
Spring can be a very pleasant time of year to visit Navan. In March, average daily highs are still on the chilly side at 8°C with overnight lows of 5°C, but the temperature climbs steadily through spring to reach approximately 17°C on average during May.
Spring showers are common, but help to bring the surrounding countryside to life. There are plenty of festivals and spring events to enjoy, and this can be a good time to visit the nearby castles and prehistoric monuments, before the crowds of summer arrive.
For a spring visit to Navan, pack layered clothing and a waterproof jacket.
Navan in Summer
Summers in Navan are not scorching, but you can expect average daily highs in the low 20s Celsius through June, July and August. Overnight lows of around 13°C means that summer nights can still feel chilly, however, so take a shawl or cardigan with you.
Summer is not exempt from rainfall anywhere in Ireland, and Navan is no exception. However, summer showers tend to be over quickly, and most of the time the skies are clear and the sunshine is warm and pleasant. Summer is the peak tourism season, however, so do prepare for crowds at some of the more famous nearby attractions.
Navan in Autumn
Autumn is a misty, magical time in County Meath. As summer fades, the temperatures begin to drop, and by November you’re looking at average daily highs of only around 9°C, with chilly overnight lows. Rainfall increases as autumn progresses too, with October and November being some of the wettest months of the year.
However, the atmospheric skies are a marvellous backdrop to some of the nearby sights, and it’s an interesting time for hiking too.
Navan in Winter
Navan’s winters can be rather grey and overcast. Average daily highs reach 8°C throughout December, January and February, and overnight lows rarely fall below freezing in the city itself, but it’s not necessarily the most attractive time of year.
If you’re visiting Navan in winter, take a good jacket and boots, plus an umbrella and a sweater.
